This is the LP version of "Shutout", the new album by Brown Angel. The run is limited to 300 copies and is pressed on clear vinyl. All copies include full-color artwork, insert and download card. Mastered by James Plotkin (O.L.D., Khanate, Khlyst).

The odds didn’t favor a new Brown Angel record. Yet, despite a lineup scattered across continents and a 2012 breakup (which ended with a 2013 rapprochement), the Pittsburgh, PA noise-metal trio roar back from the abyss with "Shutout", their third LP and first for Brooklyn's Sleeping Giant Glossolalia records.

“Shutout” finds Mike Rensland (bass, also of Night Vapor), John Roman (drums, also of Microwaves), and Adam MacGregor (guitar, vocals) shedding most of the melodic trappings of 2013's "Agonal Harvest". The trio instead serves up a brief but bracing program rife with gnarled, feedback-soused riffs, martial rhythms and the seismic thrum of Rensland's bass. Brown Angel's music remains rooted in early '90s death metal and grindcore, post-punk, experimental noise, and no wave, while never neglecting a commitment to the song itself. Some new ventures in arrangement – the layered vocals and mellotron in “Coward’s Progress”, and the orchestral percussion and free-jazz blasts that augment "See That I Am Scourged's" lopsided industrial grind – mirror a focus on solemnity and fugue-like repetition throughout. Like "Lysol" or even "Diver Down" before it, "Shutout" ends with a pair of covers: Chrome’s “Armageddon” and Husker Du’s “Data Control," which apply similar treatment to those masters' works to a shattering effect.

"Shutout" was recorded and engineered by Jason Jouver (of Don Caballero and Creta Bourzia), at Pittsburgh's +/- (Plus/Minus) Studio, and mastered for vinyl by James Plotkin. Find out more at brownangel.bandcamp.com and www.sleepinggiantglossolalia.com.

"...this is really some hypnotic noiserock. Sometimes it's plodding, atmospheric sludge, and other times it's feedback swirling around crippled rhythms...It's not for people looking for something easy to follow. It's great" - DECIBEL Magazine

"In an exceptionally shitty year, this pessimistic record might not do much to cheer you up. But, like iodine on a cut, it might do you some good. The doom/experimental metal three-piece has always had a knack for grotesque melody, drawing oddly catchy riffs out of unforgiving industrial sludge. But while Shutout is hardly easy listening, it feels bigger, heavier and warmer than the band’s past output (the b-side covers of tracks by Chrome and Hüsker Dü are at least partly responsible for this). 'Accessible' might sound like dubious praise for a band known for harshing mellows. But at a time where we could all use a little catharsis, Shutout feels as cozy as a lead blanket."- Margaret Welsh, Pittsburgh City Paper, 11.16.2016

"Their music sounds like what would happen if you sat on the edge of a pit where piles of bad heroin were being set afire and decided to practice your deep breathing. This new album, Shutout, was mastered by James Plotkin, who keeps the terror and dread as real for the listener as it obviously was for the band when they were recording it. Guitarist Adam MacGregor’s thick rotting slabs of riffs and sinewy leads tear at each other from awkward angles, equal parts Justin Broadrick and Fred Frith. As obtuse as his guitar playing can be, Macgregor’s desperate vocals are frighteningly direct. Mike Rensland’s bass and John Roman’s drums keep all the chaos anchored deep in the most horrific of basements. These are not nice times and this is not nice music." - HYPERALLERGIC

"Each track has plenty of slow-motion chug, and the guitars are coated with a particularly abrasive form of synthetic distortion, a sensation similar to when you think you’re stepping into a shallow puddle but it’s actually a mud-hole that goes past your shin...I’m fairly certain you can still smoke in most Pittsburgh bars, which makes sense, as Brown Angel sound like a band that is used to performing in a cloud of unventilated human pollution." - YELLOWGREENRED
